An Idea for the Ages…
I have no idea what to write about today. I’m working on several large projects right now, and my mind is having a hard time switching from programming to writing.
So, yesterday, I had a very brief Twitter conversation with Scott Mueller (@HandKnitWebs). He had tweeted the link to a Lorem Ipsum (latin filler text web designers use to fill in content areas for unfinished sites) site where the latin could be exchanged for hipster catchphrases – http://hipsteripsum.me/. I clicked on the page, just for fun, to see what it was all about. I tested it and laughed a little. Then, I actually started thinking about it.
I became annoyed, incensed you might say, at the level of pervasiveness the hipster movement has achieved in my life. Things I have always liked are now “hipster”, so I don’t show how much I really like weird old stuff because I want nothing to do with hipsters. Basically, I have no interest in people coming up to me asking about my accessories or whatever because they want to duplicate them.
The whole point of being unique is to actually be unique!
I responded to Scott with, “Awww. Hipsters have stolen everything good and made it “hip”. Annoying. I will refuse the L. Hipsum.#fightagainsthipsterism.”
I was just joking about it at the time.
But, somewhere between yesterday afternoon and this morning on my way to work, I wasn’t joking anymore. Maybe I dreamed about it last night, maybe I have been thinking about it subconsciously the whole time. I don’t know, but the idea stuck.
And so, it begins.
