Observations of an Other

I see. I think. I feel.

Good riddance, 2020.

By Jane Tanfei|Dec 31 2020 | Thoughts

You know, I really wanted to be able to write a decent end of year post. Unfortunately, the year has been so shitty that there’s nothing to write about. Someone recently asked me what good stuff has happened to me in 2020. I legitimately couldn’t think of a single answer. That’s ridiculous. That’s not normal. Even in the crappiest years, I can usually think of a few good points.

I looked at my goals for the year to see if I got anything done:

1) Finish building my silversmithing e-commerce website. ~ I did this, so that’s good. I didn’t have much time to promote it, and sold nothing, but at least it’s there?

2) Plan out and gradually remodel my garage. ~ Planned it, but didn’t have the funds to start on it.

3) Get my roof replaced. ~ Nope, too expensive.

4) Get going on some specific 12-day habit runs to tighten up my routines. ~ Not really.

5) Pay off as much debt as possible and build up more than emergency savings. ~ Yeah, until I went to the emergency room on Christmas and had to spend my savings on a bunch of tests. I guess that’s what the emergency fund was for, so there’s that.

6) Decide whether I want to go back to school. ~ Decided, but then didn’t have enough money to pay off a 17 year old debt I didn’t know existed so I could get my transcripts, so the decision was pointless.

7) Finish the rest of my home improvement projects. ~ See: money.

8) Figure out how to keep plantar fasciitis and tendonitis in my left foot in check, because… ~ Hahahahaha, because…

9) I will play more tennis. ~ I got tendonitis (aka tennis elbow) in my right elbow and couldn’t do much of anything that requires my right arm, including writing. At least I got a lot of practice as a left hander.

Meh. Goal for 2021: actually care about something and don’t feel like it was a wasted year at the end.
