Random Person Gets Angry…
Random Person: Excuse me, but do not try and insinuate that I think mental illness is a laughing matter, what a typically obnoxious response. It was clear I was laughing at you claiming to know she had problems because ‘you’re a mental health professional’, when it’s obvious from the marks on her arms and her weight. The pain in her eyes? I hope you don’t use that as a diagnostic in your ‘mental health profession’ because I’m sure you know it’s not very scientific and way too subjective.
Me: Of course I know that is not a diagnostic. However, I am telling you the truth – this is the first thing I noticed. Instead of mocking the woman, however, I asked the person who posted the image to seek help for the woman in the picture. This is what I meant by responding to “anonymous” regarding being a mental health professional – as a mandated reporter, I don’t just pass by people I see who look like this. To me, the images I happened to see looked like an exploitation of the woman presented. I’d never seen or heard of that person before that moment in time, I don’t care who/what that person is, I can’t let these things go by.
